I don’t need to tell you that leading a company today is as challenging as ever.
Even as I write this in May 2022 and COVID recedes, our small business owner and leader clients aren’t been given “breaks” to recuperate. Supply chain shortages, labor shortages, increased worker compensation, inflation, and rumors of a pending recession are several of the challenges that are keeping our clients up at night.
So what are we encouraging our clients to do right now?
Reflect on your commitments.
- What are you committed to keeping your business moving in the right direction?
- What are you committed to ensuring your team is thriving, even in the face of challenges?
- What are you committed to doing personally, to ensure you are showing up as the best leader you can be?
As a small business owner myself, I face challenges every day. I founded Inspiring HR to uncomplicate HR and empower small businesses. The challenges our clients are facing today require my team and me to “rise to the occasion,” as the saying goes. Fortunately for me, I have a great team. Recently, we calculated the years of combined HR experience among our team of nine HR professionals. Inspiring HR has 207 combined years of HR experience!
But that doesn’t stop me from reflecting on my commitments: every day, every week. By reflecting, I re-align myself with the leader I seek to be and shape and grow the company I want Inspiring HR to be.
What are you committed to as a leader to guide your company, your team, and yourself?
Powerful questions are essential for inspiring new insights.
Here is a list of seven questions to ask yourself as you reflect on your commitments. My suggestion is to reflect on one question a day for the next seven days. That way, you can be inspired to recommit to serving at your highest potential: for greater team engagement, productivity, and business success.
7 COMMITMENT QUESTIONS
- Am I committed to consistent communication with my team, clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders every day—even when the topic is challenging?
- Am I committed to transparency with my team, clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders every day?
- Am I committed to intentionality in my actions so that I work with a focus on what is most essential and significant to my business goals every day?
- Am I committed to delivering on the promises I make to others, and the promises my company makes to clients and other stakeholders every day?
- Am I committed to living our company’s values every day?
- Am I committed to ensuring my team members are in the right seats, and doing what is necessary to ensure this is true?
- Am I committed to doing a little bit better every day, even when I don’t feel like it?
For each question, ask yourself: what is one thing I can do today to further my commitment?
I hope you answer “Yes” to the Commitment questions. But I hope even more that you’ll take action on each commitment. Even small actions can pay big dividends over time. In times of challenge, as we in the small business community are experiencing, committing to excellence is a daily commitment.
